PRE-CONGRESS COURSE

Pre-congress course: Pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy (30 places)

ABOUT THE COURSE

Comprehensive training

This course was designed to offer a comprehensive, up-to-date and integrated experience in oncologic retroperitoneal surgery, focusing on the safe, standardized and reproducible execution of techniques that directly affect staging, therapeutic decisions and quality of care. Throughout the program, participants deepen their understanding of the anatomical and strategic foundations of the retroperitoneum and discuss, in light of the best available evidence, how to reduce technical variability, prevent complications and optimize perioperative outcomes.

Core course topics

  • Pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy: indications, anatomical boundaries, dissection planes, critical safety points and quality criteria.
  • Sentinel lymph node mapping with fluorescence (ICG/NIR): case selection, technique, intraoperative interpretation, decision pathways and integration with pathology.
  • Surgical technologies and operative efficiency: advanced energy, hemostatic agents, visualization tools and how to select and use each tool with a focus on safety.
  • Complications and prevention: early recognition, risk reduction strategies, protocol-based management and a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Integration with medical oncology and pathology: how to align surgical and histopathological findings with planning for systemic therapies, targeted therapy and immunotherapy, when indicated.

OBJECTIVES

What you will learn

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Plan and perform pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy by identifying anatomical landmarks, defining boundaries and using safe dissection strategies.
  • Perform and interpret sentinel lymph node mapping with ICG/NIR, applying decision pathways and standardizing interaction with pathology.
  • Select and use advanced energy, hemostatic agents and visualization tools rationally to reduce bleeding, improve ergonomics and increase safety.
  • Prevent, recognize and manage retroperitoneal complications (vascular, ureteral, lymphatic and neurological), integrating protocols and a multidisciplinary approach.
  • 2 DAYS OF IMMERSION
